Choosing music can be easier using a phone or tablet, when you don’t have to just pluck ideas from the tip of your tongue. In a Spotify app – on tablet, smartphone or laptop – you will see your Echo speakers listed among the sources. Spotify is giving away free Google Home Mini speakers with individual and family plans—even if you’re already a subscriber. Amazon is offering its own Echo Dot speaker for $1 with a month. The Echo is already playing ball. Spotify announced today that free members can now listen to their music through speakers that support Spotify Connect. The new integration will require hardware. Tap on “Log in to Spotify”. If you don’t already have a Spotify account, you can tap on “Sign up for Spotify”. Remember that you’ll need a Spotify Premium subscription for Amazon Echo integration to work. Enter in your Spotify username and password, and then tap on “Log in”.

Download the Alexa app, open it, and link your Spotify account with these steps:
- Tap the menu in the top-left.
- Tap Settings, then Music & Podcasts.
- Select Spotify, then Link account to Alexa.
- Enter your Spotify account details.
Set Spotify as your default service for music and podcasts so you don’t need to specify “on Spotify” at the end of your voice commands to play music:
- Tap the menu in the top-left.
- Tap Settings, then Music & Podcasts.
- Tap Choose default music services.
Note: To set Spotify as your default podcast service, tap Choose default podcast service. - Select Spotify and tap DONE.

Part 1. Spotify Premium: Play Spotify on Amazon Alexa
If you have subscribed to Spotify premium plan, to set up Spotify on Amazon Echo, you need to connect your Spotify account to Amazon Alexa. You can do this by either asking Alexa to play something from Spotify, which will take you through the steps, or:

Whenever you want to listen to a song or a playlist from Spotify on Amazon Echo, you can simply tell Alexa something like, 'Play Ariane Grande on Spotify' and it will shuffle through various songs by Ariane Grande. Here are some specific Spotify commands you can give Alexa to play the songs:
'Play [song name] by [artist]'.
'Pause' pauses the currently playing track.
'Play [Discover Weekly] playlist'.
'Volume up/down' turns volume up or down.
